In Memoriam

The scouts were out in the National Cemetery early Saturday morning placing flags in front of each solder's tombstone.

This weekend, we remember and thank all who have fought and continue to fight for our country.

"Oh boy, this is a surprise Clark. This is just a real nice surprise. "

Late Friday, Head Believers J & J were surprised by the arrival of Uncle Gary, representing the Scranton Delegation. To quote Cousin Eddie, it was "a real nice surprise." First stop, Yazoo Brewery, of course, followed by dinner at Germantown Cafe.

What are you bringing for the spread?

Anyone who has attended the Camp Meeting knows that a highlight for this annual event is the food. Mary Lu's homemade walnut chocolate chip cookies, Jean's baked beans, Pat's potato salad, Donna's cucumbers and onions, the Michaels' pork tenderloin and marinated chicken, Glee's pineapple casserole, and, of course, Darlene's cake, are just a few of our favorites.

This year we will be cooking chicken and pork on Dick's No. 27 turbo grill. This grill was designed to cook for the concession stand at Greenbrier High School football games. In other words, it's a serious grill. You have to see it to believe it.

Mystery solved!

The mystery of Howie has been solved! (See "Who made the cut?")

While working in the yard today, the Believers struck up a conversation with our neighbor. Now this is a fairly new neighbor. We've spoken a few times, but they work a lot and have a baby, so chatting it up with us isn't on their priority list, and rightfully so.

Howie has been the main topic of conversation here at the "Circle G Ranch" lately, so we asked our neighbor if he knew anything about Howie. Turns out, Howie belongs to him! His given name is Hyde. (Yes, he. We were right the first time.) And he has been neutered, so we are relieved.

We will probably continue to call him Howie. But this unfortunately means the Believer who resides in Nolensville won't be able to take him home after the Camp Meeting.

Each year there are new faces at the Camp Meeting. This creates more unique and eclectic conversation. This year we have invited our new neighbor. She enjoys sleeping all day, playing in the dirt, and climbing trees. She dislikes the mockingbirds that dive bomb her in the backyard.

Yes, she is a cat. She has two shaved spots from a recent scuffle with the law, so we named her Howie. (You know, the bald host from NBC's hit show "Deal or No Deal." And, unfortunately, that was before we realized he was a she.)

Howie Girl, as we now call her, doesn't necessarily like to be petted. She just enjoys wholesome fellowship.

The date is fast-approaching!

Now that the Kentucky Derby is behind us, we turn our attention to the Presleyterian Camp Meeting. As always, the meeting will be held the Sunday before Memorial Day, this year May 25. The grounds open at 4:00 o'clock p.m. Formal announcements will be mailed soon.

Check our blog often for updates on the Camp Meeting and relevant business. We'll also use it to post photos from past meetings.
